Water firm looks at drought plans

SOUTHERN Water has updated its plans on how it would deal with a drought.
The move is part of a regular revision of its drought plans but comes following the driest 12-month period in this area since 1976.
January saw just half the long-term average rainfall, says the company, which supplies water to customers in Hampshire, Sussex and Kent, The draft revised drought plan outlines how the company would ensure it could continue to supply customers with safe, healthy drinking water under extreme, dry conditions.
It also balances the needs of the environment against the need to supply drinking water.
