Surgeon surgically corrects man boobs
1:30pm Sunday 12th February 2012

A BASINGSTOKE surgeon is currently appearing on a Sky1 television programme – giving his expert advice to obese individuals who are trying desperately to shift the pounds.
The programme – ‘Obese: A Year to Save My Life’ – follows the journey of nine obese individuals as they try to shed half their body weight.
Mr David Crawford, consultant plastic, reconstructive and hand surgeon, who practises at BMI The Hampshire Clinic, in Old Basing, was specifically involved in the treatment of 25-year-old Jack Gorny, one of the individuals the show followed.
Mr Gorny, from Leeds, who weighed a whopping 28 stone 8lbs at the start of the show, was referred to Mr Crawford to surgically correct his gynecomastia – or man boobs.
Mr Crawford (pictured) said: ‘Many men keep this type of condition to themselves, making it tough to cope with and also difficult to seek help.
“They don’t like to speak to their partners or families and would prefer to suffer in silence than have their problem treated.
“Jack’s story has been a great way to raise awareness of gynaecomastia and the treatment available for it.
“It has been a great pleasure to help Jack markedly improve his quality of life, and if other patients are able to learn from his experience, then all of this has been very worthwhile.”
Mr Gorny shed an incredible 11 stone 7lbs during the year he participated in the show. In addition to operating on Mr Gorny, whose surgery was only possible because of his weight loss, Mr Crawford is currently appearing on the show giving his expert advice.
Justin Hely, executive director at BMI The Hampshire Clinic, said: “Every day at our hospital, we see the devastating impact obesity can have on people’s health and quality of life.
“This show provides a beacon of hope for the many people throughout the UK who have become overwhelmed by ongoing struggles with their weight.”
‘Obese: A Year to Save My Life’ is currently being shown on Sky1 HD at 9pm on Monday nights
