Town's only court to close
9:00am Saturday 28th January 2012
ANDOVER’S only court is due to close next year.
A spokesman for Her Majesty’s Court Services (HMCS) has confirmed that Andover Magistrates Court will shut in April 2013.
It is one of three courts in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight earmarked for closure, with court cases being passed to the six remaining locations. Basingstoke, which is temporarily shut for refurbishment, will take all of Andover’s workload.
The decision was taken after a consultation found that normally Andover Magistrates Court sits on two days a week and is used as a trial centre for North Hampshire.
